A Gift of Hope and Information for Preemie Families

Realistic, informative, inspirational stories of premature babies are what I needed to read when my daughter was born 12 weeks early. Not knowing any preemie parents or ever having seen a premature baby, I first needed information. Later I needed to know I wasn’t alone and that others had been on a similar emotional journey that ended with a living and thriving child. While a few medical books provided factual information, what I really needed was to hear from parents of preemies--how they coped emotionally, the hurdles their preemies faced, advice on the NICU environment, and how their child developed. "Living Miracles: Stories of Hope from Parents of Premature Babies" is the book I needed during the seven weeks my daughter was in the NICU and in the early years of her life. In Living Miracles parents of preemies from 23 to 36 weeks’ gestation share their experiences, feelings and their child’s journey in utero, through birth, the NICU and after. Stories range from first births, to infertility battles, parents with multiple preemies, and even a 69-year-old preemie kept alive at birth by the heat of a wood burning stove. Each story includes inspirational “then and now” photos. Some preemies continue to face challenges such as developmental delays, food aversions, and cerebral palsy, while others have no lasting effects of prematurity. Regardless of the health of the child, the beauty of these stories is that each parent reveals their child as their greatest gift. "Living Miracles: Stories of Hope from Parents of Premature Babies" is a gift of information and hope to parents and families of premature babies. The desire is to help those affected by prematurity, thus all the proceeds I receive from this book will be donated to preemie charities and will be used to donate copies of the book to NICU libraries around the country. Compiling these stories of living miracles was invaluable in providing information and helping me heal. I sincerely hope Living Miracles will as meaningfully effect you.
